Social Committee

The MCCA Social Committee presents fun-filled events during the year for the enjoyment of MCCA members and their families.

The Egg Hunt is held at Bunny Field in the spring, and attracts several hundred children. The committee stuffs over 1600 eggs and Bunny Helpers hide them in designated areas for different age groups. Prizes are awarded for discovering a “Golden Egg” or a Real Carrot. The Easter Bunny makes an appearance and poses for pictures with family and friends. Coffee and delicious pastries are offered and enjoyed.

The Santa Breakfast is a big MCCA favorite. It is presented in the Cedar Room at the Mill Creek Country Club. The lovely setting features a huge decorated tree, twinkling lights and table decorations of seasonal ornaments and lush evergreens. Children, mommies, daddies and grandparents dress in their finest and little ones receive a “golden bell” to wear around their necks. When Santa is thought to be near, the children start ringing their bells to encourage his appearance. Santa greets every child with hugs, candy and holiday prizes! Other engaging entertainment is also presented (December 2002 featured a wonderful magician and a balloon clown), and a delicious, plentiful buffet is served.

Another exciting holiday event in Mill Creek is the Christmas lighting contest and the presentation of the Elf Award to winning homes and entrances. Households begin their seasonal decorating in mid November, and in mid December Elf families travel to every division in search of the best decorating effort. The Elf Award is displayed in front yards for all to recognize. Condominium/townhouse entrances and apartment complex entrances are also judged by the Elf families for an outstanding entrance among them! These entrances also receive the proud Elf Award! The social committee arranges this bright event in addition to staging the Santa Breakfast, planning the Egg Hunt and other fun events!

Santa Breakfast

The Social Committee brings breakfast, Santa, a magician, and clown to you and your family for Christmas each year. The Santa Breakfast is held at the Mill Creek Country Club. Look for the reservation form in the November Millstream.

Home Lighting Contest

Santa’s sleigh has no problem finding Mill Creek on the night of Christmas Eve. As he swoops down to our small hamlet, the city will be twinkling with homes decorated in all their splendor.

Many thanks from all of Mill Creek to you families who do such a spectacular job!

On a dark and shivering eve a week before Christmas, small bands of Elves, bedecked in red hats and carrying bells, will descend into your neighborhood. Bearing gifts and hammers, the Elves will be presenting the coveted Elf Award to one home in each division. Sometime between 7 PM and 9:30 PM, Elves could come to your door and in high seasonal fashion and with extreme excitement, reward your efforts by placing an Elf Award sign in your yard. The home chosen by the Elves will also receive a Elf Award commemorative ornament for their tree.

Our lovely town homes here in Mill Creek also do an excellent job of decorating their entrances. One entrance will receive an Elf Award and one award will also be presented to the best-decorated apartment complex. What fun! Be home that night to enjoy this wonderful Mill Creek holiday tradition!

For your viewing pleasure, a list of winners will be available at the MCCA office. Elf Awards will be picked up by the Elves shortly after the New Year. A listing of winners will be published in the first Millstream of the New Year. Happy Holidays from your Merry Mill Creek Elves.

Bear Sightings

We have had a number of bear sightings in the MCCA this summer. The Fish and Wildlife Department wants you to know that this is not uncommon for our area, bears do wander through from time to time. If you happen to see a bear while out and about DO NOT RUN. Bears look slow and lumbering as they walk along, but they can move very fast and will definitely catch you. Instead, make yourself as big and loud as possible by raising your arms and yelling. 99% of the time, this will scare off the bear. If making noise and waving your arms does not work, act aggressively and start throwing rocks, sticks, or whatever is in reach at the bear.

The bears are here looking for food. To keep bears away, make sure you are not leaving out things the bears see as an easy meal. A bear’s favorite foods in residential areas are bird feeders, hummingbird feeders, and animal feeders, garbage, compost, and fallen fruit from fruit trees.

MCCA Trails

We hope you enjoy all the trails within the MCCA. You can print out a trail map and see where your adventure leads you. Please note that the golf course trails are not part of MCCA property and are for country club members only.
